If you are a third-country national and a family member of an EU citizen, please note that your old paper residence card or permanent residence card will expire on 3 August 2023 (These cards are printed on secure paper and have a photo attached). This means that you will need to apply for a new biometric residence card before that date, otherwise you may face difficulties when travelling or accessing certain services.
The new biometric residence card is more secure and contains a chip with your personal data, photo and fingerprints. It also complies with the European standards and facilitates your mobility within the Schengen area.
To apply for a new biometric residence card, you will need to follow these steps:
Fill in the online application form on MyGuichet.lu and attach the required documents (such as a copy of your passport, a recent photo, etc.).
Pay the administrative fee of 80 euros online or by bank transfer.
Make an appointment with the Immigration Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs to have your fingerprints taken and to collect your new residence card.
You will receive an email confirmation when your new residence card is ready. You will then have 90 days to collect it in person from the Immigration Directorate.
