Important Immigration Update: Freeze in Issuing Work Permits in Luxembourg - What You Need to Know

Immigration Update Luxembourg

We would like to inform you of an important update regarding the immigration situation in Luxembourg.

Due to a recent administrative reorganization at the Directorate of Immigration, the issuing of immigration documents, such as work permits, residence permits, and visas, cannot be carried out for purely technical reasons.

We recognize that this news might raise concerns, especially for those awaiting or in need of work permits for Luxembourg.

However, it's important to note that this freeze is anticipated to be temporary.

According to the latest information we received directly from the immigration office this morning, the situation is expected to normalize in the coming days.

What that might mean for your employees depending on how long it will take to normalize the situation:

  • If they are a foreign worker currently in Luxembourg awaiting either an initial or extended work permit, their legal migration status will not be affected if their immigration documentation expires during this time.

  • However, they should reconsider any travel plans as they will not be able to return to Luxembourg under expired documentation.

  • They might need to postpone their work start date if they are affected by this temporary suspension of immigration services.

In the meantime, we recommend that you:

  • Contact your employees to discuss the situation.

  • Tell your employees to avoid making any travel plans until further notice if their residence permit is going to expire during their travel.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

As your trusted partners in navigating immigration procedures, we assure you that we are actively monitoring the situation. Our team is dedicated to providing you with updated information and guiding you through this process once the issuance of work permits resumes.
